Plex Cannot Find Server

Hey!

Currently on a FreeNAS 11.2 RC1

Got a weird problem with the Plex server plugin in that it can't find a Plex server, despite itself being one. Any idea on how to fix that? Tried reinstalling the plugin / checking mounts and perusing previous forum threads with other people having the same problem, but it's either a rare issue, since I found little to no prior conversation, or one that's pretty impossible to diagnose.

Not at all, this one relates to the actual Plex Plugin not being able to see any servers, (see photo) rather than the DHCP error causing it to not even start up. I've attached a png of the dashboard just to explain it. I'm logged into an account with a lifetime Plex pass too if that is of any relevance.

Where you replace "plex-server-ip-address" with the appropriate address of the plugin jail. Don't forget the 32400 after it.

That's exactly what I did, and that's the screen I'm shown, not even a way to claim my server.

I am having the same issues. It doesn't matter if I install using the plugins page or if I manually install by the jail page. When I pull up the management page it will see my other Plex server but not itself.

I am using FreeNAS 11.2-RC2. My screen shots would look just like ElliotLepley's.

The only time I experienced a weirdness like that was when I was screwing around in a virtual machine.

OK, so, granted, I'm on 9.10. But, I created a fresh, virginal, jail. I then did a pkg install plexmediaserver. I started it with service plexmediaserver onestart as a test.

Then I went to 192.168.1.204:32400/web in my web browser, and, sure enough there it was. It booted me to plex.tv to sign in with my credentials, but once I did so, I was back at the server, and there was nothing in it.

So the only thing different between what I experience today, and what I experienced years ago when I made the server, is that now it seems to require that I have a plex.tv account before it will let me have a server at all. other than that, all was as expected.

So I don't know what's going wrong.

I think I read a post on the plex forum a while back that said you have to be signed in to plex.tv to claim a server. That would coincide with results of your experiment.

OP, make sure you are signed in to plex.tv and try again. If you continue to have issues clear your browser cache and try again.

ok. Not sure why iocage vs warden makes any difference, but all my stuff is still warden.

OP, go directly to plex.tv and sign in. THEN try to access the local IP.

There appears to be significant action and tension in the plex forums about this issue of needing a plex account, effectively, in order to claim servers. A lot of people are really hot under the collar about this.

Try using "incognito" mode in your browser to see if that gives you a different experience.

Hi. "incognito" mode gives me the same, I only see my other plex server. I created an new plex account and just like my main plex account, I only get the 'Looking for servers...' message.

I have 11.2 RC2 and I just tried an install of the Plex Media Server (PlexPass) plugin and it worked exactly as it should.

After I installed the plugin, I went to the web setup page for the new plugin jail, for me it was:

http://192.168.10.124:32400/web

I used my Plex account to sign in and completed the setup for the new Plex server install. Once that was complete, it appeared in the server list with my other Plex servers. Make sure you are completing the web setup through the jails IP:32400/web.

If that doesnt work with RC1, then perhaps try 11.2 RC2 as I can confirm it works.

Sadly, that doesn't seem to have worked. Even using incognito provides the same output.

This seems far more likely a "plex problem" or a local configuration problem, than a "FreeNAS problem" at this point...or at least, I cannot suggest anything additional on the FreeNAS side for you to try. Might I suggest the Plex forums and/or the Plex irc channel or I am sure there's some kind of reddit for plex.

This complicated redirecting thing Plex is doing to enforce people having accounts, I am sure, does not play well in certain nerd-restrictive network configurations. That's a possible issue. But I think this is unlikely a FreeNAS-related issue at this point.

Just for the record, the IP address for the other plex server, and the IP address for the new plex server, are on PRECISELY the same LAN network/netmask? I see you're using a 10.x.x.x IP address, and that always makes me nervous, because that usually means someone has gotten "clever" with their home network.

Yes, they are on the same network. I wouldn't say that using the 10.x.x.x network is "clever" as you would say and no reason to be nervous about it. It is just a network. I am familiar with designing/running networks as I work in this field during my day job.
I also created a separate Plex account and logged in with that and it will hang at the Looking for Servers (just like the screen shot I provided earlier). I also shut down the other server and get the same Looking for Servers. Could it be a permission issue somewhere? Not sure what else to do.
