I'm running the latest Plex release on my TrueNAS server. I'm going to be going on vacation, so I figure I'm going to download a dozen movies from my Plex server to my tablet, and it is taking forever. My local network is set up for 1 Gigabit transfer speed, and I am doing the download locally. I should be able to be able to have around 54 Megabit via Wifi, or around 100 Megabit with the USB-C to Ethernet adapter. What's my actual transfer speed? Per the TrueNAS dashboard.... 1.19 MiB/s. Somehow, that doesn't feel right.

Just to note.... I'm not having an issue streaming a movie, not am I having issues doing regular file transfers. It just feels like it is "playing" the movie to the tablet.

Which it probably is. It's likely transcoding to a format suitable for the tablet and then copying the transcode.

So, I turned on Settings Transcoder Use hardware acceleration when available, and that has increased the speed from 1 to 10 Megabits. I can live with that.

I wonder what happens if I select Disable video stream transcoding.

Of course, the next question is would adding a nVidia 1080 card to my TrueNAS help. Slight problem.... that 1080 video card is currently in my main desktop, and getting a newer video card borders on Mission: Impossible, at least, if you want something that is near MSRP.....
