parted and gparted are missing on my install. Is this correct? I just get the "command not found" error.

I just updated to the newest build and was playing with a test pool, but can't find a way to partition a drive. I checked /bin and /sbin, they are not there, so it's not a pathing issue.

Do we use a different program on scale now, or is mine borked somehow?

Thanks.

TrueNAS SCALE is not "yet another Linux distro", it is an appliance. It's not supposed to have everything—and users are NOT supposed to install their own package.
In this instance, the user is not supposed to format and partition drives manually. Use the GUI and let the middleware handle everything for you.

This should be taken somewhat with a grain of salt. When i was on freebsd version of truenas, I replaced some drives USING the GUI. instead of replacing the drives with GPTID naming, it used sdb, sdc, etc. This wasn't an issue until I upgraded to scale, which NEARLY broke my system when 4 drives decided they wanted to switch letters (as sdb/sdc's tend to do). I had to MANUALLY re-add to the pool using the gptid's. anyway. Not everything via the GUI/middleware works as intended is all im saying.

IF you need parted/gparted, go create a vm, install there, then copy the binary file back to your host...it's literally just debian and for MOST things, it'll work...I've done it.

Thanks for the useful information. The other guys is acting like I’ve never moded a toaster or a coffee machine. I mod any and all appliances thanks.

I'm suprised these tools are missing - what about diagnostic purposes? I use the FreeBSD equivalents on CORE all the time. Possibly they are just delivering a different tool? As far as I know there is frequently a prolific choice of vastly different software for the same job on Linux

I was surprised too, I'm sure I remember using them on one of the earlier builds. Must've been removed at some point.

One note, TrueNAS SCALE or Core is appliance software in the sense that an update will could remove any changes. Like adding additional software.

I am not trying to discourage you. But suggesting you keep track of your changes so you can re-implement them. Or, put the executables in a data pool, not the boot pool.
