I am trying to disable file locking on my SMB server but no matter what I do this seems like it can not be done.

I have both 'oplocks = no' and 'level2 oplocks = no' in SMB Auxiliary Parameters but when I run 'smbstatus' I am still seeing files locked when accessed.

Am I doing something wrong? Is this a bug?

No. Shared mode locks are still a thing in this case. Oplocks are about allowing client-side caching.
