I have Directory services set to NT4, but on my Linux SMB server I get the error ""failed to get machine password for account". It looks like it never created a machine account on the SMB server, so I just did that by hand. "smbpasswd -a -m FREENAS" like this.

Some additional info...

So when I browse the network from my Windows client I do see the the shared volume name but when I click on it I get the following error messgage...

"\\Sharename is not accessible. You may not have permission to use this network resource. Blah, blah blah...", then " There are currently no logon servers available to service the logon request."

The directory service is set to NT4 as mentioned above and under CIFS settings I've got the netbios name & workgroup set to appropriate names, local master, domain logins, time server are off, server min protocol is --- and server max protocol is set to NT1. There are two Bind addresses listed but neither checkbox is set. Yes the service is turned on.

If you have any ideas of what I should be looking at to fix this it would be appreciated. Thanks.

Were you able to resolve this? If not, do you need to be running a directory service for your scenario? Which build version of FreeNAS (from System -> Information)?
