noob question on where to install freenas

So,
Sorry if its obvious but im running vmware esxi
i understand that i need to pass through the hba but for the OS (freenas iso) can i install that on a virtual disk or does that need to be installed on a separate physical disk as well?

Of you are comfortable loosing the OS and the workload that will mean, sure go ahead. If you want a stable deployment you install it on a disk attached to a passed through controller
