In that case you could argue as an extension of that idea, that if you want to run VMs you should be doing a FreeNAS build that is in-line with what you would use for VMs. That means mirrors, lots of vdevs, an L2ARC, and 64GB+ of RAM.
Not disagreeing with your assessment, but I'm saying that we could very easily and logically argue more harsh "needs" for Virtualbox to run stably.
Personally, I've always felt that if you want to run Virtualbox on your FreeNAS you're really implying mirrors, lots of vdevs, L2ARC, 64+GB of RAM, etc.
