NextCloud, OwnCloud, or something else?

I want to setup a cloud on my NAS, but what are the differences between these two (and others?), which would be the best, and is there a detailed setup guide for either that I could follow?

I would like something that I can access from on/off my home network and that is secure.

Security is fluid, I for one would never allow unchecked WAN traffic past my firewall and I compartmentalize my LAN to separate servers being exposed to WAN traffic. Why am I so paranoid? Experience, and bad once at that.

For Nextcloud there has been a script developed by @danb35 to automate the installation. I would how ever cation anyone wanting to host a publicly accessible service to do their reading and understand the components involved. Data security is no laughing matter. Property and lives are at stake after all.
