Hey everyone. I'm new to freenas. It's nice to stumble upon such a nice product. I have an installation question.

I have a WD External HD attached to an ASUS N900 router. Is it possible to install freenas on this External HD and use it for time machine backups?

You need a PC or server (x86 or x64) for FreeNAS.
