I just set up my first FreeNAS server using an old desktop I had and two 2TB drives in a UFS mirror. I'm new to FreeNAS, but I use Linux Mint as my main OS so it's not too foreign.
Right now I am just trying to learn how to use it before I implement it as my main streaming and back up source. Currently I just use a single 2TB external HD connected to a USB port on my router.
I'm really looking forward to learning how to use FreeNAS and I think the devs have done an amazing job with the GUI and features available.
So far, I have installed it to a 2GB CF card on a P4 machine w/ 3GB RAM and created and shared the new volume made from the two 2TB drives. I am able to access it in Windows, Linux and OSX using only the Windows Share (SMB/CIFS) option instead of setting up separate shares for each OS.
I'm having an issue with enabling the recycle bin though. If anyone could help, please check out my other post.
