As the title suggests, I'm a noob and I'm trying to get my AD integrated into FreeNAS. I followed a guide I found on Wiki and created the appropriate A record, Computer Account, and verified that I can ping from ad dc to freenas and back. When I try to join ad from the GUI, all I can get is can't contact LDAP server. Can anyone point me to a previous thread or give me some guidance?

Thanks
Bruce

Please try the troubleshooting steps listed at http://doc.freenas.org/9.10/directoryservice.html#if-the-system-will-not-join-the-domain. If you get any errors you don't know how to resolve, post the exact commands and errors here.

I was advised that freenas is not recommended to be used with a hardware raid5 array, so I installed OpenMediaVault instead. It doesn't have as many features as FreeNAS, to be sure, along with no AD integration options. I've since learned that I could destroy the RAID5 on my box, and reconfigure it as 4 discreet RAID0 disks, each with only 1 physical drive, which sounds odd, but is supported by the Dell H700 controller I'm using. I thank you for your reply, and will look at the document above.

You can, but it isn't recommended. Use a controller than can pass through the individual disks without interference--the H200 can do this when properly configured.

Thanks, that's good to know - IDK if the H200 will retro-fit into my Dell 2950 chassis or not, it's kind of a custom mount to a sideplane. I'll look into it though, that might be a pretty inexpensive option.
Cheers
