Hi,
I found an old machine, with the following components:
Chassis: Supermicro SC846TQ-R900B
Motherboard: Supermicro H8DMi-2 DualCPU
Processors: 2x AMD QuadCore Opteron 2378 with Heatsink
Memory: 8x 1GB total 8GB DDR2 ECC Registred (suporta maxim 64GB)
Backplane: Pass-trough, allows SATA1/2/3 or SAS
Power: 2 x 902W redundant
Network: Intel PCI-X 133 Dual Gigabit LAN + Dual Gigabit Lan onboard
IPMI 2.0: RJ45 Gigabit port and dedicated IP for remote management.
Raid Controller: Areca ARC-1280ML 24 Port + Remote management cu battery backup and 2GB cache memory.
Complete with all ventilators, cables for SAS/SATA (4x SAS SFF 8087 to 16 SATA) + 24x HDD Tray/Caddy. The Backplane has cables for HDD leds on each bank of HDDs, power and SATA leads to raid controller.
Is it a good start?
What do I have to change on it to bring it to 2018 and to FreeNAS.
Any advice is well appreciated.
