Well. Ada1 looks to be toast.

If it is toast, you replace it following the instructions in the manual.

Luckily you used RaidZ2, so your data is safe. (for the moment)

You could try to find out if it is toast.
https://forums.freenas.org/index.php?resources/hard-drive-troubleshooting-guide.17/

PS: HD's fail... this is why you use ZFS with RaidZ2 dual drive redundancy.

Did you not recieve a critical email? Once you get everything sorted, you should make sure that you have email alerts setup.

1st of all: Please replace that drive!

Yeap, the command is correct. Do what @Stux said above to ensure you have the right info, but: replace that HD ASAP!

Edit: The warning says: Removed by the administrator?!

Turned it off to see if i could see what serial no wasn't showing up on the volume list. Hmm probably safe to say i found what the issue was. ( See attachments lol)

Amazon are going refund the drive to my Gift Cert balance so i can order a replacement for tomorrow and collect the faulty drive on Wednesday. She said she couldn't just create a replacement order because the one i bought is before is no longer available and can't swap it for the other one on amazon because it has a different ASIN?.

Will that matter if i buy the newer one on amazon and use that in my freenas machine other than the fact the price has jumped from £85 to £99?!

The one i bought before:

The other one they have now:

What on earth happened there? I can't tell if it was abraded or if it caught fire. Either way, as you say, a pretty obvious problem. Get a replacement drive, burn it in properly, and replace the failed drive following the manual's instructions. Then make sure your email monitoring is working, your SMART tests are reset to run on the new drive, etc.

Thank you, It's not burnt but its thick black paste stuff that is hard to get off no idea how it got there. The drive was installed at the top of my define r4 case in a 5.25 to a 3.5inch mounting bracket where there is no dust filters.

I'll let you know if i have any more problems,

If it's not soot from burning, it might be toner. Although that amount of it would indicate a major problem elsewhere.

I have pretty good air flow going through the case but that isn't at the top. I was just removing the drives one after another to find the missing one that wasn't showing in the GUI and numbering the drives as i went along to make it easier in the future to find the bad drive.

The drive was some what dusty because there is no bay cover on the front as it interferes with the mounting of the bracket and i flipped it around and saw that. Wasn't on the rest of the drives.

I'll be sure to monitor it from now on though and setup email alerts once i get it back up and running.

I think I'm just going to take this chance and start upgrading to 4tb's. If i was going to upgrade down the line i wouldnt get £85 for a used 3tb. Is there any extra steps i need to do if i was replacing a failed 3tb with a new 4tb? I know i wouldn't see the extra space until i upgrade all 10 drives.

Nope didn't notice it until now, FreeNAS showing as an error from OCT 18th!

Trying to find a reliable adapter but they're all cheap which makes me think it'll just happen again. Any other way to avoid it? I'm already using the SATA PSU cables that came with the PSU for the other 8 drives.

Submitted an Express RMA with corsair and because they don't sell the AX 650 anymore they have upgraded me to an AX 760 which has 12 sata ports instead of 8 so no more adapters needed for drives.
