Hello Community!

I have a new problem at my NAS. Between wathing movie on my home network, the plex shows me that he lost the connection from the server.
I tried to sniff around with the wireshark, and i saw today the problem.... or something. I attached a pic from the captured session.
Can anybody advice me how i can continue the trubleshooting?

At the fault the nas is inaccessible, cannot ping, or make anything on the webGui.
But if i hit an enter on the keyboard of the nas, the trouble is fading, and the nas start working normally.
The period of the problem is totally random, i cant sense anything more without help.

Thanks guys, Freenas forever!!!

Try using the section for your natural language. You are confusing everyone here.

Please provide detailed hardware configuration and FreeNAS version, per the forum rules at the top of the page.

Run ifconfig on the server and post the results here. With that, we can figure out which NIC you're using.

He's found the manufacturer assigned to his MAC address, and believes that shows that he doesn't have a Realtek NIC. I don't think it shows what he thinks it shows, though--my server has a Realtek NIC for IPMI, and four Intel NICs. All five NICs have 00:25:90:xx:xx:xx MACs.

Living 20 minutes away from the company mentioned, I'm absolutely sure they don't make NICs. I wouldn't put it past them to sell pre-configured servers for some of their products, but that information does nothing to meaningfully advance the conversation.

We have no idea what the FreeNAS version is, what hardware is being used, what's going on networking-wise (wireshark is definitely not the first thing to try if something is wrong on the network) and, most importantly, we have no idea what the server itself was saying when the mythical Enter press happened.

Realtek NICs don't really work very well on freenas. It's suggested to get a Intel nic.

Aside from the obvious issue with the Realtek NIC, the energy-saving settings are a definite possibility, and could certainly look random. They'd also explain why it starts working again if you press a key on the console keyboard.

Definitely something to investigate. It would neatly explain the bizarre behavior.

But the Intel NIC is going to be the proper solution.

Ive been Running a Realtek 8169SC gigabit PCI card and haven't experienced any thing like this. Is it possible that that particular card is dead?. Can you try connecting to the network via the onboard nic?

The OP is probably already using his onboard Realtek NIC. If you search the forum, you'll find a lot of users have various problems with Realtek NICs in general. The go to fix, is an Intel Pro/1000 CT, for about $30 USD.

You have a different Realtek NIC than the OP. Occassionally, we'll see newer versions of FreeNAS, drop support for older NICs. If you're still on 9.2.1.9, you might find that your NIC isn't supported in 11.0.
