Hi peeps. I already have the best answer to my question already (NAS hdd) however, I am still dangling around over few doubts/issues

1) Due to initial budget, I spent little on refurbished hardware parts, so far running Freenas well except for storage. I do not have UPS. 5 * Seagate ST4000DM000. One power outage after 1st mth usage, i believed my NAS is idling. But 1 HDD I/O failed.

2) Now after 4mths +; i forget to setup email for SMART, i realized one of my HDD kept reporting "terminated ioc 804b scsi 0 static c xfer 0". And eventually suspecting another I/O case. Tried using all sorts of methods to read the HDD via Windows tools but no vail. I guess only Solaris can (read it over the Net) but I have no access/time for that now.

3) Read too, online that FreeNas not meant for daily shutdown due to its nature. So in such as case, desktop HDD is not recommended for constant IO from ZFS? I must minimum go with NAS drive?

4) so in future, if a HDD is reported with issues from FreeNAS, what are the usual steps/tools to verify or repair?
