This may be the most useful thing I have ever read on the entire internet... I have two of these as nightstands...

Now I can convert the bedroom into a server room! Sweet white noise :)

Seriously though; rack stuff is noisy. Decent desktop towers with big fans can be nice and quiet.

I actually have that, but the longer 'coffee table' version. My TV weights like 30 lbs. Despite the fact that the paperwork says not to put more than 50 lbs on it, I always feel like if someone sneezed it would collapse. I wouldn't "recommend" that table just because of the potential costs if it collapses. ;)

Rack stuff is noisy.. which is why my server is in the basement. ;)

Keep in mind that many "decent desktop towers" can't keep hard drives below 40C. So be warned and setup that SMART temperature monitoring!

The idea is to use them *in* the closet without the high cost of the rack itself.

Google "lackrack" for some education...

Right, but I'm saying I'd never trust them due to how flimzy they are. They literally feel like they are made from cardboard. One that I broke the first time I used it WAS made of cardboard. ;)
