Hi all. For as long as I can remember I've been using FreeBSD as a file server for my home (since FreeBSD 4.something) . Currently I'm using a FreeBSD 9.1 machine with an 8 drive RAIDZ2 array (no OS on the array, just data). I'm really liking where FreeNAS has gone and what it can do. I'm looking at making my file server just that, ONLY a file server, then use a small box to run FreeBSD for my other tinkering I do.

My question is, is it possible to install FreeNAS 9.1 as a brand new install, and have it detect and use the ZFS array that I have under FreeBSD 9.1?

Thanks!

It certainly is expected to work - that's one of the lovely things about ZFS.

Remember you can test without (much) risk just by booting the same machine off a FreeNAS USB stick, and checking you can autoimport the array.
