Migrating from Windows Server to TrueNAS. Help with SMB ACLs?

We currently have a Windows 2019 Server where we share out home directories and group shares from the D drive. I’d like to move this over to a dataset on our TrueNAS server.

I plan to use robocopy to copy all the files and directories over SMB and hope to retain all the permissions and timestamps of the files and directories.

I’ve joined the TrueNAS server to the domain and that works great. I can’t seem to figure out how I should have the ACLs set on the dataset though.

Does anyone have any pointers or suggestions on setting up ACLs to accomplish this goal? I can’t seem to make the changes to the ACL that would allow me to do what I need.

You will need to set up rights for accounts and groups for each dataset. You do that from the storage tab on the left and subtab pools. Then use the three dots on the right.

Make sure you are using SMB/NFSv4 ACL Mode on the dataset. Its a lot easier
