Member disk size vs. volume available size seems off.

Hi,

I just created a new FreeNAS instance for exploration. This is my first FreeNAS instance. I just added a new volume using Volume Manager with one member disk of size 3 gigs (ada1 (3.0 GB)) as reported by FreeNAS. The filesystem type is ZFS without encryption or deduplication.

Just after creating the volume, I can inspect it via the View Volumes console. However, I see "767.9 MiB" reported for "Size" of the newly created volume. I understand that there is file system overheard and would not expect to get the full 3 GB, but 767.9 MiB seems drastically low. Is this normal?

Yes, and this is why the docs say to create "a virtual disk at least 4 GB in size to hold the operating system and swap". FreeNAS will automatically create a 2 GB swap partition.
