I have had some hardware issues with my current Fibre Channel (FC) connection, so I began looking for a way to use some of my other FC cards as replacement.

I have researched pretty well and it should not be too hard to support Mellanox FC cards now in Freenas.

It has been a feature request since 2013, with no real progress.

At http://zfsguru.com/ he (apparently) already has them working on a FreeBSD 9.2 install. I say apparently because I have not tested it yet myself. Since I use my FreeNAS to support backups and file shares I can't take it down to run up this build as a test.

Can we graft those in to 9.3 FreeNAS install somehow? Or duplicate the effort?

I am looking for support or guidance of how to get from here, to there.

The short answer is "if you have to ask you can't do it".

FC is basically unsupported in FreeNAS, so requesting the change is likely to get you nowhere. Grafting it onto the OS is possible, but then its one of those "if you have to ask how to do it you won't be able to". You almost certainly won't see the change in 9.3 as the feature and additions were frozen long before it was officially released.

I don't have a ticket number, but FC is really not supported in FreeNAS which would explain why the ticket is sitting there untouched. There has been talk of perhaps supporting FC in the future more officially, but AFAIK that's not even on the drawing board yet, nor would I expect it to be.

Thanks cyberjock. I did not understand that it was not an officially supported option. I took my recent successes with it for granted...

Yeah. The manual says that FC is not supported. :(

There's some hacks that one of the devs has posted in the forums on how you can make it work in some circumstances, but I don't know where it is because I have no FC of my own.
