Mariadb ERROR 2002

Attempting to set up a Nextcloud jail per the guide below. When I attempt to run secure installation I receive

ERROR 2002 (HY000): Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/tmp/mysql.sock' (2 "No such file or directory")

No idea where to begin.... I don't see a /tmp/mysql.sock file at all...

Sounds like a php configuration error. Check the php section of the guide and make sure you have everything set up correctly.

I haven't even made it to the php section.... I verified Apache works, but after that I installed mariadb and I started getting that error....

Yeah sorry about that, I could have sworn I saw that error before from a misconfigured php.ini file.

Me memory just aint what she used to be...........

Another one using a warden jail. You need to be using iocage. There are at least two fairly-detailed guides on the subject, here and here.
