I was wondering if FreeNAS can talk to LTO drives?
It would be a convenent way to do backups.

The base system has mt and tar. I think some people have managed to use devfs rules to pass a tape drive to a bacula jail. Probably a better solution will be to pass the HBA the tape drive is connected to a VM in bhyve in FreeNAS 10. Then you will be able to have native ltfs support (if you have LTO5 / LTO6 drive) in addition to running a proper backup program.

Sorry to bump an old tread but it seemed better then opening a whole new one.
Lto is not support as i have read in several posts just wondering is this by design and wil it never be supported? Or is this just not in there yet and wil it come in the futhere ?

It's because practically nobody cares about tape anymore. The workarounds still work, but don't expect any significant work to go into supporting tape drives - there are other much more important things that need work.

Spin up a jail or a VM and do it yourself.
