So I've been reading, finally have truenas running on an r720 sata SSD through proxmox. (Eventually I plan to separate the NAS from the services onto another server). I have 2 x 1TB SSD's, 4 x 2TB old WD Reds, 4 x 6 TB HGST's.
I plan on using the 4 x 6 TB for serving plex media.
I plan on using the 4 x 2TB for backups of pc's, etc.
I have no plan for the 2 x 1TB SSD
I've read that plex media really doesnt need to be fast, and I'm not overly concerned with losing that data. I dont think I need the backup location to be fast either, and its obviously a little bit more important, but I do plan on syncing the backup to the cloud as well.
So I was thinking mirror for the backup disks, raidz for the media disks. I planned on using the SSD's for more VMs, but I think I'm just going to stick with using the single SSD to run all the VMS, so now I can't think of the best use for them. Am I on the right track here?
