Jail Help: Installing Wireguard into QBitorrent Plugin Created Jail

I'm running a freshly updated TrueNAS-12.0-U8.1 installation. The relevant jail was created a number of versions ago using the QBitorrent plugin. I just updated it to 12.3-RELEASE-p5.

I am trying to install Wireguard into the same jail as my current QBittorrent installation. I am trying to take advantage of this guide.

When I run

pkg install wireguard

I'm met with

pkg: Fail to create temporary file: /boot/modules/.pkgtemp.if_wg.ko.vTLnxbhTcxaE

I run zfs get readonly in the CLI and

I am hoping that someone can explain to me what is going on with this error. When I search for similar issues, I find a good many relating to FreeNAS 9 but nothing related to TrueNAS 12. I think in general I'm confused about OS versions and plugin releases (and how they are or are not related...

Still having the same issue, even on a new jail installation, even trying to do it via the linked thread's suggestion. I'm pretty stunned, it means to me that I need to upgrade to a newer version of TrueNAS, but which? I have no idea if SCALE will include the configurations I need to automatically install the web services I use--I might have to figure out all the docker installations myself.
