I"m having a repeating issue were when creating or copying files into my FreeNas using the proper credentials and assigned permissions with those credentials..... when the task is finish I don't have any execute permissions on the folder by default. I have to go in and chmod the folder and all is well.

SO to be clear how do i apply that execute permission to the owner by default

This is with the Owner/user permissions set as show below

Any thoughts?

What protocol are you using, what clients are you using, what permission type are you using, are you copying the files in to the root of the share or a subdirectory?

I'm using AFP I use OS X logged in as the Owner of the folder and copy and paste FROM my QNAP to the FreeNas and the pasting is in a subdirectory

Normally you don't want to always have execute on a file. But if you really do I'm think there is probably a setting under the afp service that lets you set a umask or something similar. This will allow you to always have a minimal level of permissions.

How do you know your directories don't have execute permissions set?

Well now i'm just confused
I knew i didn't have execute permissions because in the ls -l list within the directory in question it was showing DRW- (meaning no X) this was on all owner/user and other groups
However I can home today from Vaca and booted up both computers and so far 400G and counting of data and no permissions issues at all.
I wouldn't consider my problem "solved" but its "working" for now

when you copy data from the source the permissions should be maintained. Maybe the source on a couple directories didn't have execute for owner?
