Is "installing" machine-specific?

Is it necessary to run the ISO-image boot installer on the same hardware that it will be run on (that is, it looks at hardware details and writes it to the resulting installation), or is it generic, and can be done on a different machine just as well?

Hi John,

Nope, not specific at all. The system configures itself when it boots so it's perfectly reasonable to install the USB key on a different machine.
