Is inotify included/enabled in the kernel?

And if not, is there a way to enable it? Or would that require recompiling the kernel? Something like that is very much above my skill level.

The reason I ask is because I run Emby on another system but the real-time monitoring feature (which utilises inotify) is non-functional. I've already raised and validated the required values through the advanced sysctl settings in SCALE, but so far I'm getting no results.

I had inotify errors in jellyfin logs and setting the sysctl value in scale worked for me.. are you running emby via big blue button or the true charts version

Emby is running on a different system entirely from SCALE on Ubuntu Server 20.04 LTS. Could the problem be SMB? No matter what I tried, I couldn't get NFS shares to mount on the Emby machine but SMB worked right away. From the limited reading I've done, though, SMB seems to support inotify better than NFS (or at least in the past it may have).

Sorry missed the remote system part. I swear I can read., Remote system won't care about scales sysctl inotify setting from what I understand. Did you set it on your Ubuntu system sysctl ?

Ah, do I need to set the inotify values on the Ubuntu system as well? I only set them on SCALE.
