I have a dell r210 II server that I purchased used to replace an extremely old server I was using that included raid 5. The problem that I failed to really think through was that the r210 doesn't have internal space to add more HDs. It has 1 eSata port and 1 pcie port I can utilize. I purchased a Rosewill RSV-S5 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16816132015) but couldn't get it to work. I guess that's what I get for going with Roswell.
Anyway, I have 3-4 1.5TB drives that I would like to have in raid. I have very little experience with NAS/Raid so I wanted to ask for some guidance. I'm not sure if building a seperate NAS machine is the right move since I already have the r210, but I don't know what solution I can plug into the r210 that will work.
Also, what does it take to have the ability to add drives for extra storage?
