Hi.

Running 9.1.1-release. Noticed this in "top -SH":

Code:
 12 root       -88    -     0K   336K CPU0    0 728:16 41.36% intr{irq16: xhci0}

Irq interrupts for xhci (usb3?) are chewing 40% of one cpu core. I don't have any usb devices aside from the boot usb drive. I'm pretty sure it's not plugged into a usb3 port, but I'll have to check when I get back home.

Any ideas on what would cause this?

Hardware specs:

i5-3570
Asus p8z77-v lk board.
32 gigs (non-ecc).
11x 3tb drives in z3.

Not a specific case for your hardware, but USB3 seems to be full of issues for alot of people. Plenty of people have seen various issues with booting, performance, etc from disabling USB3/XHCI.
