How about using a real web browser?

What's a real browser? Chrome? No two browsers render everything the same, which makes a mockery of web standards. Until they do, all websites should ensure they render at least in a usable way on all the major browsers envisioned to be used. And yes, that includes IE.

Nice joke, pal!

How about making a real technical contribution and showing us how smart you are rather than how smart you think you are?

I have a feeling you don't know who William is....

Well you may make a strong technical contribution - but your mocking of others is unprofessional.

The bottom line is that pretty much anyone in IT that knows Microsoft's past with internet browsers knows that IE isn't exactly world renowned for being compatible. They used to ensure compatibility by forcing you design your webpages in a way that was only compatible with IE. But since they've lost market share they haven't figured out that most everyone laughs at them now.

But hey, if you want to use IE, feel free to keep using it. It's not available for any non-MS OSes, so expecting developers to work hard to make it work is somewhat a joke(which is what William was trying to say). You should use something that's a bit more OS-agnostic.

I use both Chrome and IE. Microsoft have made considerable strides since the dark days of IE6 to become far more standards compliant (they still have some way to go), but I don't consider it a joke: If you're working in big corporates, IE is still the standard if the desktop is Windows. One of the reasons is that it works very well with Active Directory enabling single sign-on to intranet apps.

I really like FreeNas. But if you want to increase penetration of both the FreeNas product and (more importantly for IXsystems I guess) TrueNas into corporates, making the web interface IE compatible is important - after all, many corporates will not let users install a browser of their choice. Why place an impediment in the way of customers who really do have the big bucks?

I don't think end users are really meant to be in the administrative web interface. The IT guys who will be in the admin interface typically run more than IE. That's how it works here at least. Anybody in IT has firefox installed. The rest of the users only have IE, but nothing they need to do requires more than IE.

Exactly. They built the "great wall of hatred" between IT guys and their browser. Now they'll have to work that off if they ever want to be respected in IT again. So maybe by 2020 some ignorant IT guys will accept them and the rest of us by 2050.

But at the rate Microsoft is burning bridges, they might be a shell of what they are now by 2050.

A honest reply here from a webdesigner; a big portion of IT-people do look down on IE because of the lack of standards in IE. (Tell me about it..)

IE is improving tough since IE8/9, but still a vast portion of users is using old versions. :/

I find it odd that BSD users and developers would be expected to cater to internet explorer. We are to assume they even have a windows install available for testing ui functionality?

Why would they not build and design for browsers that are actually platform agnostic?

Courtesy of people that are refusing to upgrade from Windows XP, I'm sure.

Bump

Anyone know if this will be getting fixed anytime soon. Doesn't work in IE11 either and for those schmucks (like me) stuck on a Surface (RT version) that is our only browser option... really sucks not to be able to effectively use the FreeNAS interface.

(oh and when I say "stuck" I mean greatly enjoying the interface/form factor and wouldn't change a thing)
