Hi everyone

I've just got an Intel Pro/1000 PT Quad port nic to put in my Dell Poweredge T20 but it doesn't look as though Freenas is recognising the card. I've run ifconfig and it's just showing the onboard nic.

Are there any steps involved with getting Freenas (or the machine) to recognise the card? The ports light up when I connect a cable so I know it's connected at least.

Thanks in advance

It should just work. Can you verify that it's working on another computer? Different OS?

Thanks for the reply, I'll try it in another computer if I can but is there a way to see (apart from ifconfig) if FreeNAS has detected the card?

You could go through dmesg or lspci and see if the controller shows up.

With the card installed in your FreeNAS machine, log-in to the GUI
and go to Network > Interfaces > Add Interface
When the window appears, click on the drop down box at the top.
If your card is recognized the ports will show in the drop down.
My two unused onboard ports show in picture as em0 & em1.

I am also planning of getting one of this card (Intel PRO/100), and this is going into a Supermicro board X10SLF running Freenas 9.3.

Any known issue using this NIC with supermicro board?

Thanks.

The more modern PCI express Intel NICs should just work with FreeNAS.
The drivers have been in FreeBSD for a good long while now.

The x10slf has built in Intel NIC...Is there some reason you don't want to use it?
