Intel MEBX

Hi, I've decided to use an older desktop I have for FreeNAS at home. Made sure it is 64bit and has 8gb RAM. Download the latest version. Then discovered the PC has Intel MEBX and I can't get to the boot menu to change the order so I can boot from USB and progress the install! Have searched high and low and cannot find a guide to get at the boot order.

MEBX shows a Boot Menu but it only lists any different OS installed.

Is there any other way of getting FreeNAS on to the dedicated HDD partition other than booting to the install USB stick.

Tks in advance.

Depending upon how old the motherboard is, it may not support booting from a USB flash drive. Will it let you configure a small SSD as a boot device?

Problem is I can't seem to be able to get at the boot order because of MEBX. PC has a DVD drive so I could install from there instead of USB if USB boot isn't possible but as I can't see how to alter boot sequence to make DVD first in order, this isn't possible either.

Problem solved. Thanks for your prompt response. This morning I discovered that if I left the input alone after the Ctrl P prompt the PC would try to boot from CD drive before HDD. Loaded the image onto a CD instead and am now teaching myself how to set up shares to existing external media. Thanks again.

Glad you found a way forward. Good luck with the rest of the build.
