With the new ZFS boot pool, twice I have tried to replace or add a boot mirror USB drive unsuccessfully because the new drive was smaller than the existing. Since this can easily happen for 2 drives sold as the same "size," e.g., 16GB, I think this could be avoided if the install by default or by option allowed leaving a few MB unpartitioned.
