A friend has a Netgear ReadyNas Duo V2 which just died on her (blown power supply). it has 2 mirrored drives. The file system is ext3. FreeNas manual says there is limited support for importing ext3 volume (journaling is not supported). What I want to do is copy the data from ReadyNas to a FreeNas box. Can I safely copy the data of ReadyNas by importing the ext3 volume into FreeNas or should create unix machine mount the ext3 volume and then copy it to FreeNas box?

Thanks in advance for your feedback.

I wouldn’t risk the data by mixing in FreeNAS. Mount the drives properly and read-only in a “client” and then copy the data over to FreeNAS

@garm, so you are suggesting building a unix machine & mounting the drive there. Right?

Linux machine, preferably. Though "building" is a strong word. "Attach to a laptop with a USB SATA adapter" is enough, really.

Linux Mint live USB on any computer. Once booted, connect the external drive and copy the data to FreeNAS.
