"Import Disk" button removed?

I just set up successfully TrueNAS scale and was looking to import data from my external NTFS USB drive to one of my Datasets. As seen on other postings here, there should be an "Import Disk" button on the Storage or Dataset section, but I'm not able to find it.

The external disk can be seen on the Disk section, but I have not found the "Import Disk" button yet.

Any help is highly appreciated!

Hi @andimattes,

The "direct USB import" functionality was removed in SCALE 23.10, as it has been shown to have issues when preserving certain metadata such as file system attributes and permissions. Copying the files over a network protocol such as SMB or NFS has proven to be more reliable - are you able to plug it into a client machine and copy it to a dataset over the network?

Hi @HoneyBadger thanks for your quick response!

That's bad to hear, in the meanwhile I'm moving data using rsync to the SMB share, as rsync has options to preserve metadata like the file date. Unfortunately, I only have a 1Gbit connection so it will take me some time to move the 5TB of data to the NAS.

Thought there will be a quicker option but thanks anyway for your help!
