If I freshly install FreeNAS on system disk, shouldn't Volumes remain intact

It looks like the GUI often isn't really updating my system as it should. Adding users, groups (with file sharing wizard) is failing. So, while I have a Volume of 3 disks (9TB; effective 5.7TB) I find myself often re-installing FreeNAS on the main OS hard disk. To my surprise, I'm never able to get my old data set back (currently: 1 folder named "R"). If I try import, it shows nothing. I haven't encrypted my data volume, so I"m rather confused. The whole point of FreeNAS (for me) is data redundancy!

Thanks,

Devnullius :)

PS: which browser would work 100% with FreeNAS web interface? I tried Chrome (horrible), IE (mostly good) and Opera 12.18 (some problems too). So... ;p

Freenas version, hardware?

1. why are you reinstall freenas so much? Yuo should never have to do this unless your OS drive dies.
2. when reinstalling all you have to do is go to the storage tab and import volume.
3. what do you mean the gui isn't updating your system?

1. Because it ain't working, I want to rule out any wrong doing on my part. It's a fresh installation with nothing but an empty folder, so re-installing gives me a break and ease of mind. I run the wizard once more and hope for the best
2. Tried that, but it remains empty. Nothing I can do there. Might be a GUI error with IE, but I'm not convinced.
3. Adding users, stuff like that with the wizard just ain't working. And depending on the browser, the GUI often doesn't show all the contents of the dialogue box. Rendering you stuck. That's why I went to Nightly build 9.3.1 and that finally is working (users, shares, groups, all added). Only thing left: creating a folder within a share for user devvienuis@email.provider aka \devvi_000

:) Thanks for the feedback!

If you are having problems, don't even think of running the "nightlies". Please use the stable version.

For usernames, try devvienuis or devvi_000

Many of use use Firefox or one of it's derivatives.

I don't feel hardware is important in this case... It's all supported just fine; it's the software (GUI!) that often fails. Or better: failed until I went to nightly builds. Importing disks just won't work when I install a fresh 9.3 installation. I will test once more what happens if I first upgrade to nightly build before trying to import the disks... So far, I'm not very impressed despite the many crazy advanced features you made easily available :)

Yeah, sorry, that information (now removed) belonged to this post: https://forums.freenas.org/index.ph...s-share-from-windows-10-cloud-accounts.41638/ . I added your answer there. The solution was entering "\devvi_000" instead of "devvi_000" as a username on my Windows client. This is for the Windows 10 account devvienuis@email.provider :)

Question here remains: why is the GUI failing so often with stable builds? The only thing I have running rather well is nightly build. I will test how nightly builds work this evening. Thanks!

Considering that the GUI isnt failing on the stable builds for most other people that seems to suggest an issue with your setup so maybe you should do as SweetAndLow asked and list your hardware?

Time and time again we have seen a shortage of RAM cause random issues with the web GUI. But by all means, ignore the rules of the forum and the requests of those trying to help you....

I have plenty of RAM and CPU. All is idle. 3 JBOD of 3TB each. No data, except for an empty folder: so no overhead to be expected either.
Hardware is good. FreeNAS Stable has problems, for me. Nightly build doesn't. Something goes wrong with importing volumes, adding volumes, adding users / groups / shares... As mentioned, I'll test with 9.3.1 nightly build later and let you know if importing volumes will work. By all means, chill ;p

The nightly build are not fixing your problem. The code change in those is minimal and has nothing to do with your problem. Since you refuse to provide the required information no one is going to help you.

You are the only person having issues with the webui so this is clearly because you have hardware that doesn't meet the requirements or you are not telling us what you are really doing that is breaking things.

Only ones trolling...

My question was: should volumes remain intact. Your answers indicate strongly: YES.

So yeah, something is wrong. I am not troubleshooting it yet, but at the very least I wanted confirmation on what I could expect. GUI ain't working properly depending on the browsers used parts of the dialogues disappear. Might be that's the problem here too. Might be that volumes disappear every time again and something serious is wrong with my gear. If I get there, I'll give them **** hardware specs. For now, they are irrelevant. Nothing trol about it!

Well, they ARE fixing things at my end, them nightly builds. Who are you to tell me it isn't???? You don't even know what the problem is, yet you are certain that NOTHING in the minimal code changes effectively solved some bugs. And others are telling me I'm the *devil* by running nightly build... So what is it, you guys??

I'm not refusing anything, I had my question answered for now and I just gave the extra details to keep you guys calm and explain a bit more. Now stop bugging about them 'missing' hardware specs!!!! I'll post it once it became relevant!

Sigh.
