Please don't reopen a thread that's been idle for a year and a half. Also, this isn't a particularly good idea. If for some reason those disks would get put back differently at a later date, that would lead to the possibility of disconnecting the wrong disk when someone wants to service "disk1". Better to identify via serial number.

Sorry didn't realise.

However if someone is smart enough to think about identifying disks before they fail then they're smart enough to update the label when they move the drive Id say.

Sorry again. Perhaps threads should auto lock after a specific time if people don't like members contributing to them?

No, that wasn't meant as anything other than a jab at the forumware, which recently locked me out twice for about a week.
