I don't see a problem with it as long as it doesn't turn into non-technical type stuff.

Can you post more details, like model #'s etc.?

EDIT: I should clarify that posts should be for personal items, no links to commercial products. Posts may be deleted at the discretion of admins or users may be banned if posting is abused.

If more users would like to sell/buy/trade something related to NAS topic, i guess some "Bazaar" section for non-commercial use shouldn't hurt.

I like the Bazaar idea but eventually we could be getting all kinds of crap being placed for sale. With that in mind I would think the forum rules for that area would say the area will be closed if it's deemed abused. I would also like to see a control set restricting posting until a member either has a minimum number of postings (maybe 100 or more?) or having been a user for 6 months before a user could post to that section, assuming that is even possible to control. Someone who wants to look at the threads is fine and could PM the individual if they have questions or want to buy it. My idea would limit the garbage and this is an earned feature, not automatic for everyone.

This would have unfortunately not allowed someone like scotch_tape to post his for sale items but I think it's a necessary evil to maintain the chaos.

My only concern is that if someone gets scammed who are they going to blame. Naturally its a risk you take buying from a forum setting, but why not just use ebay?

I have one more item for sale, but I'm not going to push my luck until some consensus has been reached on the "bazaar" section.

I'd just post it, we're not going to learn without experience. I'm not really fond of the term 'bazaar' so hopefully someone can suggest some other ideas. It might not hurt if your buyer posted some feedback. I think this whole thing is an experiment and you're the guinea pig ;)

Like I said, if it gets out of control, there are problems, or the admins decide otherwise, this can all go away. Hopefully everyone plays nice. If there's a problem and it can't be resolved between the buyer/seller, I think that will be the end.

4. Any post in violation of the rules will be deleted without notice and you may be warned, and or banned from the site.

10. The forum administrators reserve the right to prune, move or edit threads/topics/posts that do not adhere to the rules or are technically inaccurate.

Just my 2 cents.

Because one is more likely to find people on here that are familiar with the items for sale and have ties to the community, whereas on ebay one is more likely to just find those with bad intent. For example, ebay is completely tilted towards the buyer, so much so that the malicious buyer has complete immunity for his/her actions. If you were to buy some item, use it, abuse it, and then refuse it, the seller has to take it back from you, and pay the shipping, or they lose the sale money AND the item. I would only sell something on ebay if my life really depended on it.

I have one more item for sale, but I'm not going to push my luck until some consensus has been reached on the "bazaar" section.

I totally agree with you. I don't sell stuff on ebay for precisely that reason. And while I, personally, would feel comfortable buying something from someone with lots of posts, how many people have been in this forum that really shouldn't be playing with FreeNAS. I'd bet at least 50% of posters haven't read the manual when they post(hence my rather curt sig). I wouldn't want to sell to the vast majority of forum posters for precisely that reason. And with no protection from being a buyer or a seller, things could get ugly real fast if buyer claims he didn't receive seller's product. The last thing I want is to be semi-mediating between a sale that went bad(or even having to read it).

But don't get me wrong, I do like the idea of people selling stuff that is 100% guaranteed to work with FreeNAS. When I first started playing with FreeNAS that was my biggest worry.

I belong to a car forum. There is a section reserved for selling parts and stuff. Few have gotten burned. Over all, it has been a great tool. We have our fair share (no pun) of idiots there. The forum should not get more involved than hosting posts. At the end of the day, we are adults here (or should be supervised by one). Just my .02 :)
