I have 3, 4 TB Western Digital RED drives that are now full. Problem is I'm still adding movies to it. Am I able to just purchase another 4 TB hard drive and link them together? I set it up where it uses the entire hard drives with no backups. Any help is appreciated.

Sir,

Unfortunately that is not how this works. Also, this is the #1 thing that we stress, in literally hundreds of our posts, documentation, and guides. I'm not sure how you could have missed it.

You cannot add devices (drives) to increase space to existing vdevs. However, you *CAN* add another vdev itself. There are options, none inexpensive.

Before I can advise you further, we will need to see the result of
Code:
zpool status
so we can see how you are configured. Also, please least your motherboard, amount of RAM, and CPU.

Would I be better off transferring off everything to my external hds and re-doing it? lol
no. too soon for that you havent exhausted all options.

You can do plenty of things, still assuming.
or
Just make a new pool out of the new 1 disk, since sounds like you're not using any redundancy(you said backups....) anyway

Please let me see "zpool status" sir. Your situation may be worse than the above gentleman is assuming.

Sir, this is very odd.

Your pool appears to contain two drives. Not 3 as you stated.

Output of zpool list might help as well.

Sir,

You are showing only two drives connected. ada0, and ada1.

And what's worse, is they are each apparently their own single-disk vdev.

This is very very very bad.

I'd like to know where your third drive is.

As it is right now, if any of these drives takes a crap, your ENTIRE POOL is hosed, without recovery possible.

That pic shows us absolutely nothing. Are you SURE you have 3 drives?

ETA: It sure looks like 2 4TB drives striped together.

Nowhere in that pic does it say 11.9 TiB used.
Look at the very top of it at the root dataset level, it clearly says 6.9TiB used.

All I can tell you sir, is what I know.

I know you have two drives connected as far as FreeNAS is concerned,
I know they are connected as single-drive striped vdevs, which is the very very worst possible scenario.

I know you need to fix it. How strapped are you for cash? I can give you "fair" and "very good" solutions here, but the price difference between the two is substantial.

I mean, I'm not hurting for money...My plan was to buy another 8TB External HD and just xfer all my movies from the server onto my externals. Then I was gonna buy 3 more WD 4TB Red drives and then re-do them all together. But seeing how I only have 2, I would just buy 2 more WD Red drives and re-do the free NAS
