I installed truenas on my system about a week an a half ago, and when I try to make a new pool, it only lets me use external drives. (I have a core i7 10700F, 48 gb of RAM and I am using a seagate baracuda 4tb hdd)

Yes, any disk you use for the boot pool is no longer available for data storage. This is by design.

OK, that's because TrueNAS won't use any drives with an existing partition table. Go to Storage->Disks and select an internal disk. Run a quick wipe to whack any partition table. It should then be eligible for use in a pool.

The status gets cached at boot. Reboot, and try it again.

Let's try gpart destroy -F /dev/ada0, assuming you wiped ada0. Change as necessary.
