I am working on setting up a home server with FreeNAS. I have it installed, but am wondering, What to do next. Kinda looking for information on how to set it up from the ground up. I have installed in a 128microSD card. I have been able to access files from home network now what?

Read the hardware sticky, read the noob slide show, don't use a sd cards, set up smart tests, configure email notifications, practice doing drive replacements, practice reinstalling freenas Ave setting it all up again.

So you didn't read the hardware thread everyone was guiding you towards. 8GB RAM is the minimum requirement. If you run into stability problems and you start asking for help, ensure you specific your system hardware otherwise you will be wasting other peoples time when they think you have a minimum standard system.

A suggestion if you want to run FreeNAS on a 4GB system, run FreeNAS 8.x version or visit NAS4Free forums.

I installed the server on a 128GB MicroSD card
I suspect that the card will not hold up to the use and will fail when you least expect it.
I have a 5T USB external hard drive and 250GB on the computer where the server is stored and for memory.
USB hard drive, yes you are looking for failure. USB hard drives are a very bad idea for connected storage in FreeNAS.

Question: What are you looking for or to do with FreeNAS and are you planning to use appropriate hardware?

Really all I was looking to do is access all my files from virtually anywhere Music, pic, docs. Also set up a "secure" minecraft server for my kids to play when they are away from the house. To there it would run almost all the time.

So you will need a better computer to run this on. If you are just trying to learn it, then you are okay but don't expect it to keep working without issue, don't expect your data to be safe at all with your current configuration.

FreeNAS is a very inexpensive option to purchasing a high quality pre-built NAS solution. Originally it was designed for a cheap left over parts but that was 4+ years ago and it took a new direction since then. While we would of course like you to become a FreeNAS user because the product is so nice and stable, if you don't have the proper hardware you will end up having failures and start hating the product.

Honestly, I'm trying to be kind here and ensure that you understand that your system is just not up to the minimum specs for working properly and you should expect complete data loss.

Thank you for your kindness. I know it can be frustrating dealing with NOOBs. Everything I am looking online for prebuilt systems are like $1500.00 though that would be awesome, I am unable to do that at this time. Thank you again for all your help

Search for the Dell T20 in these forums. Cheaper alternative.

newegg has the Lenovo TS 140 for $233 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA24G3KG0088. You'd still need to add at least 8GB of RAM.

The Dell T20 was going for $179 for most of the summer, but is now up to $279.

You might want to keep an eye out on Bens Bargains for server deals - http://bensbargains.com/search/servers/?sr=1
