Hi,
I attempted to do a pkg_add -r on minidlna, to no avail. Many supporting packages are not fetchable or installed. How is this being done by those brave enough to try it?

It's called using the search feature... if you type minidlna into the search box, its the second thread. I hate to say it, but if you can't use search, then the rest of the thread probably won't be very helpful either. A lot of people have spent a lot of time posting details on how to set this up and when someone comes along and doesn't demonstrate that any effort was spent trying to do a basic search, it's kind of offensive.

If you're serious about using FreeNAS and really want to learn, then start with the sticky posts at the top of the NOOB section where you'll find links for FAQs, Documentation, and videos.

Gee, that was rude. I saw there was a reply and I was very excited to see what might have been posted by a helpful person..... I am actually very serious and have spent a couple of weeks looking into it. I am actually on my 3rd rebuild, with an eye on making contributions and providing feedback. Pardon me, but I have not used Unix actively since 1995, at that point, I was a ten year veteran at that time working with Solaris and HPUX every day. That said, my chops are quickly coming back up to speed. And yes, I have seen all of the post from gcooper etc. I don't believe that any of them address what I am discussion

My question is actually NOT about minidlna. It is about getting the pkg_add command to work on 8.0.2. I did a pkg_add -r which failed. Yes, Routing, DNS etc are all configured correctly... When I ran the command, I had several unresolved download failures. I went to the ports @ ftp://ftp.freebsd.org/pub/FreeBSD/ports/amd/packages-8.1-release/Latest/ and found minidlna.tbz and downloaded it directly, however the problem persisted in that many dependencies were also not directly downloadable.

That said, if anyone has seen the problem before and wishes to help, thank you in advance.

I'm sorry for being rude, but the answers you seek have been posted here so many times because people havent' searched or taken time to read the sticky posts I referred you too. If people would search instead of asking the same questions over and over, the answers would be easier to find.

If you read the docs I referred you to, you will understand why using pkg_add is not the correct way to add stuff on FreeNAS 8, because the next problem you will be posting is "Why is my root partition full?" which is also answered in the docs.

That said, if anyone has seen the problem before and wishes to help, thank you in advance.
I have seen the problem before, too many times, and my HELPFUL answer is to read to docs :)

The first 3 posts are sticky posts, they have the answers and more....

Hi,

No worries I will read the sticky posts and follow the threads. I have now seen that as of 8.0.3 it is included. Thanks for the guidance.
