How to control the fans on an Supermicro SC836 Chassis?

Just recently I aquired a SC836 chassis to improve on reliability of my NAS Solution. When testing I was unpleasantly surprised by the noise level this chassis produced.
Went reading here and found I am not the only one; read about @Stux's script and @Kevin Horton's Pid Script. Would like to try the latter on the main system (see sig) but have a few questions:
  1. Since the SC836 Chassis was a JBOD Box before the Fan Wall is connected to the EL1 backplane. Do I need to change that for the script to work?
  2. And also for the other fans? Will not that overload the FANx header?
  3. I am not using IPMI. I read that I might need to update the IPMI firmware for the script to work. If yes can I do that with either the console or Webui? If yes how?
Also read that someone just wired two fans in serial? I think that is not very smart, opinions?

Am a reasonable noob on scripts and am looking for the smartest solution to implement, any help is greatly appreciated!
