Hello! I've just finished burning in two brand new HGST He10 10 TB drives to replace 4 x 3 TBs at my main storage pool. Looking at Smart Attribute lines 192 and 193 output: do I have a head parking active, so need to check if HGST has a software capable to stop parking?

Code:
root@mainarray:~ # smartctl -a /dev/ada1
smartctl 6.6 2017-11-05 r4594 [FreeBSD 11.1-STABLE amd64] (local build)

I'm not sure I'm following what you're after. It has logged 194 hours, and the Power-Off_Retract_Count is equal to the Load_Cycle_Count, but the Start_Stop_Count is only 4... I believe that implies the heads are parking. Unfortunately HGST doesn't give us #240 Head_Flying_Hours to compare with #9 Power_On_Hours.

I would keep an eye on it and see if the count continues to go up.
I had some drives a few years ago that were parking and they would park and un-park the head every hour, so the count was going up by 24 park cycles every day. Your drives are not cycling that quickly, so it might be nothing.

Thanks, Chris and rvassar. I'll keep checking what's going in. Drives are brand new, so I'm starting moving data to get rid of old pool.
