My IT friend talked me into a FreeNas Mini for my small law office due to having both Macs and PCs on our LAN. It’s set up, but only as a typical office file server viewable by several users. It also doesn’t work for the Mac users because when Microsoft Word saves directly to the FreeNas, it creates all sorts of folders that don’t go away. This is apparently a known bug. As MS Word is critical for a law office, it’s a pretty critical bug that makes me want to sell the FreeNas and just go fully to the cloud.
However, if there is another way to use the FreeNas with a different front end on it, then maybe there is hope? I have only 3 computers that connect to the FreeNas by LAN, and he other 3 computers need to connect outside the office through remoting in through VPN. Would OwnCloud be another potential solution for all of the computers?
I’d be happy to pay to consult a FreeNas expert. Is there any such companies out there that could assist with the setup and implementation of a working system for me?
