If you create the pool on the mac... which is at a lower zfs version. Freenas will be able to use it. The latest feature flags on zfs haven't made it to Mac yet. Or you could load an older version of freenas to build that pool, where the flags match. That would allow use of the gui for creation, which is preferred. Using an older pool version on a newer freenas is not a risk. Some maintain their pool at v28 for more compatibility.

I like that idea!!!!
I'll give it a try right now. I have to start over, but I feel more secure this way.

Thanks!

If you want to get fancy you can specify your version as you create the pool from the CLI. The difference may be your structure vs the gui. Zfs doesn't care but freenas puts a 2 Gb swap partition on the drive.

Sorry bout formatting on my phone.

Keep in mind that choosing to create pools from places "other than FreeNAS" and then use them on FreeNAS may not work out well for you. We've seen weird problems from not creating the pools in FreeNAS.
