Hello let me give you a little background with what im working with. I have two nas devices (Drobos) the access controls on the devices are not adequate for controlling access and are missing a lot of features, in particular groups. Since these devices are currently servicing files, I would like to use Truenas as shell where a VM of Truenas works as the access controls to these devices. I set up controls using the Samba DFS feature and this works perfect except for one draw back ln -s msdfs command appears to only work if the file system is open so i can not lock down my Drobos with creds meaning if someone knows the path to the Drobo they can readily access any of the files I was attempting to control access too. I was looking for some feed back on whether there is a way to allow the ln -s msdfs command too also provide the creds on the backend. or if there is another method i could use to control access to the Drobo devices.

Thank

This seems like a very odd solution to a problem best solved by getting rid of the inept software (which might drag the hardware along, I imagine)...

If set up Samba AD at home, you could just use that for coordination of IDs / usernames / passwords. Assuming that a drobo can join an AD domain.
