Help !!!! Suggest a 8 ports SAS controller card

Just bought a SUPERMICRO AOC-SASLP-MV8 and FreeNAS 8 doesn't support it.


Please, suggest me a cheap 8 port SAS Card that supports by FreeNAS 8 ?

Working well in a 10 disk configuration (using 2 ports on MB). You will need to buy SAS to SATA cables separately.

If you plan on using 3TB disks in future, go with the LSI 9211-8i (not cheap, but works great with FreeNAS once flashed with IT firmware).

The DELL SAS6 won't support 3TB drives, neither will the BR10i. In fact, any controller that is based on 3GB/s LSI processors (both the DELL and IBM are in this category) will not support 3TB drives.

You may want to try the RocketRaid 2720 FreeBSD driver for this card as it is based on the same Marvell chipset. I have got the RocketRaid 2720 working quite well with FreeNAS.

^^^What Milhouse said. Furthermore, pick up a cheap IBM M1015 SAS card and cross-flash it with "IT" firmware and it works like a champ. Here's one on ebay.ca:

The cables you already have for the Supermicro controller should work fine with this controller too.
