...and the next questions are going to be about your use case. What do you intend to use the machine for? How much do you need to store? How much do you expect to need to store within the next few years?

I would advise that you choose server grade motherboard, ideally one of the supermicro based ones as listed in the hardware guide. If you are planning on 8tb of storage, you should check out the zfs calculator to plan your raid. I use
http://wintelguy.com/zfs-calc.pl other than that, you should really look into the hardware recommendation.

I'm not sure about memory(Registered,Unregistered,Unbuffered,2400,2133)

The platform you have chosen only supports unregistered memory. The terms unregistered and unbuffered are often used interchangeably. Supermicro provides a Tested Memory List for most (if not all) of their boards. For FreeNAS it makes no difference if DDR4-2133 or DDR4-2400 is used.

The board you have chosen also supports 7th Generation Core i3 and Xeon E3 v6 CPUs (Socket 1151 Kaby Lake) if the BIOS of the board isn't out-of-date. Please ask your vendor about that.

But 7th Generation Core i3 not support ECC only Core™ i3-7101TE.
What to use for boot device?

You're right, not all of them support ECC but only the models with an 'E' in their name. The E model is preferable over the TE because of the higher clock frequency.

What to use for boot device?

A small SSD is preferable over USB-Sticks for durability reasons, given that there is a spare SATA or M.2 port on the board for this purpose.
