Hey guys,

I'm using HeadPhones in its newest version in FreeNAS 8.3.0 and I wish I could do the Re-Encoding that is there, for use only in mp3 car stereo, can anyone tell me how to do this? Where do I find and how I configure ffmpeg to lame FreeNAS?

Thank's for your help

If you install my susbonic plugin it comes with ffmpeg with lame (I compiled it myself). then just link everything up correctly I guess

Installed successfully, thanks!
Now you know how I set up the headphones so he will convert FLAC to MP3?

It's pretty straight forward.

  • Open Headphones
  • Go to Settings
  • Click on Advanced Settings tab
  • Check the "Re-encode" checkbox
  • Pick your encoder (ffmpeg or lame -- I'd pick ffmpeg here)
  • Set the path to the ffmpeg binary in the "Path to Encoder" field to point to wherever the Subsonic plugin installs ffmpeg
  • Set any other settings you want
  • Save changes and go download something in FLAC

Note that the last time I used Headphones to do FLAC to MP3 conversion, Headphones did not keep the FLAC files. Unless that's been changed, I'd recommend manually doing conversions yourself. It's not expensive or time consuming, and it'll let you keep the high quality FLAC files while still getting MP3s that you can use on lesser devices.
